CLUTHA RIVER BOARD.

A meeting of the above board was held on Saturday. There were preseat: Messrs J. C.-Anderson (chairman), J. E. Mitchell, John IBegg, and 1 Henry Morrison.

The committee to which the question of increasing thet tariffs was! referred recounmended an increase in the present tariffs of, 20 per cent. After consideration, Mr Begg moved "That the present freights and fares tariff be increased by approximately 20 per cent-., except in the case of petrol, which remain at- Is 6ili per case- to all buffings." Mr Begg- said -he- would luue preferred to see coal in-creased by only 10 per. cent. Mr Morrison said it' theic was- to be any departure from- the proposed? increase ofe 20 per cent, it should be for grain and manures. Mr Mitchell said he thought the increase must be 20 per cent, all round. There was no kelp for it, in view of the increase in coal, repairs, wages, etc. The chairman concurred', and 1 Mr (Morrison seconded 1 the motion, which was

carried unanimously. It was resolved! that the increase com-o into operation on and' from September 1, and the chairman was authorised; to sign, the increased tariff schedule. The secretary was instructed to have copies printed. Mr Morrison inquired as to the details of the steamer wages sheet. The captain that'work at the slip had been suspended during the week owing to wet weather and a slight rise in the river. River improvement and- shed- and landing- repair woik had been going on up-river.
