WELLINGTON, March 17. Some surprise was expressed at today's sitting of the Conciliation Council when the dispute between the shipowners and Wellington Tally Clerks' Union came on. It nas .been generally understood that the employers had agreed to the demands of the union, with the exception of wages and preference clause, but Mr Pryor announced that the shipowners did not intend to go further and would oppose the clerks' right through.
