SCHOOL PICNIC.

On Saturday the secondary department of the Balclutha District High School held a picnic at Port Molyneux. At the appointed time, in spite of threatening weather, the procession of conveyances moved away from the Crown Hotel with its full complement of the pupils and their guests, the committeemen and their wives and the schoolteachers. After a jolly drive the party camped on the recreation grounds at Kororo creek, and while the "billy" was being boiled not a few of the pupils availed themselves of the pleasures of surf-bathing, which helped to whet their appetites for the coming meal. By this time a shower of rain had compelled the picnickers to take shelter under the neighbouring trees, whence the lunch was partaken of. After dinner a large party betook themselves to the bush, where an enjoyable and exhiliarating time was spent exploring the bush in the usual manner of healthy school pupils. By this time the shower had passeil and games were indulged in by the whole picnic party. Owing to the disagreeable state of the weather the picnic was finished at an early hour, and the party arrived home about half-past seven to the accompaniment of harmonious melodies with which the happy picnickers gave vent to their happiness and pleasure.
