AUCKLAND, March 10. • Five more Indian coolies f.orh Fiji arrived by the Island .steamer Nav.ia this morning to swell the ranks of the : r fellow-countrymen who have already settled in the Dominion and particularly this part of it. The newcomers were able to satisfy the very meag u test in English required by the Immigration Act and they are iiow entitled to all the privileges of colon sts who have not been naturalised,. Already there, is more than a sprinkling of their compatriots in the Auckland district. Hawking fruit and similar commodities seems to be a favorite calling for the Indians tq adopt. They originally came out to Fiji as workers in the sugar-cane plantat:ons and some of them who aparently prefer work in the fields take up positions as farm laborers when they come to New Zealand. There are two or three lots of them working on farms down the -Man Trunk line. At the present time 24 Indians appear on the books of the Auckland "City Council as holding hawkers' licenses.
