Dr A. Stenhouse is expected back in Balclutha at the end of next week. Mr McElrea leaves for Dunedin by this evening's express.

Mr Irvine, divinity student, who has occupied the pulpit of the Clinton Presbyterian Church for the past three months, has received intimation that he has passed the first section of the B.A. degree. Mr W. W. Turner, the new rector of the Balclutha District High School, was present at Mr McElrea's send-off on Wednesday evening. He returned to Lawrence yesterday, and will finish up there to-night. He commences his duties at Balclutha on Monday morning. There was a surprise party at Mr W. Paterson's residence, Puerua, on Tues day night. At an interval Mr A. G. At the fortnight], 11 meeting of the Ancient order of Foresters, Court Molyneux, on Tuesday night, three presentations were made. C.R. Bro. Stowell was presented with a handsome P.C.R. certificate, framed in oak; J.W. Bro. Fallowfield with a handsome member's certificate, framed in oak, as a recognition of the honour of having initiated the most members during the term. The third presentation was to Sec. Bro. Roberts for his past services, which he had carried out in a most energetic manner, and also for having the returns favourably commented upon by the District. His presentation was a handsome certificate framed in oak. Bro. Roberts in replying said that he was only too willing to do what he could for his Order, and was quite prepared to accept the secretaryship for a further term.
