TALKING FILMS.

Mr Edison's latest invention, a talking cinematograph, in whicfh sounds from a phonograph behind the screen are produced m unison with the movements of the picture, was demonstrated lately at Mr Edison's laboratory in New York. Seven- films exhibited. One showed a lecturer advancing to the front of a stage and describing in a Rood voice the invention, which is to be called the "Kinetophone." Tests were made to establish his assertion of synchronism between sounds and movements. The lecture] 1 dashed a piece 0 f china to the floor, the sound of the crash being reproduced simultaneously. Horns and whistles were blown, awl there were piano, violin, and vocaf solos. Dogs which barked were introduced into a picture. -
