ORANGE LODGE.

4 FORMED IN BALCLUTHA.

The official opening of the Loyal Orange Lodge King's Own, No. 29, took place in tho Oddfellows' Hall, Balclutha, when the large attendance of local brethren provided a really pleasant surprise to those who. had for some time previously had the arrangements for the inauguration of an Orange Lodge in hand for Balclutha. Visitors were pres- . ent from as far north as Oamaru, and to Invercargill in the south, while a pretty strong contingent* came from the L.O.L. Purple Star, No. 38, Kaitan- ; gata. District Grand, No. 3, under the jurisdiction of which the new lodge in Balclutha will wtfrk, was represented by Bros. Isaac McFarlane, .James W. H. G. Bruce, C. H. Duncan, Rev. Bro. Watson and Gilchrist. The wari rant for the new lodge, was presented by W.D.G.M. Bro. McFarlane, who presided until after the local officers had I been installed. The usual addresses j given by the officers of the superior I lodges were of a high order, and were received with marked appreciation, by 1 all present. District Grand Secretary Bro. C. H. Duncan, with Bro. Harry Bruce as Master of Ceremonies, duly in- | stalled the officers into their respective chairs, after which the usual complimentary addresses and greetings were delivered by representatives from sister lodges. The new lodge has reason to be proud of their foundation officers, who are'all men who have experience in their 'favour, besides being men who are well and favourably known and much respected in the district, and this goes far toward the welfare and future prosperity of the new lodge. After the lodge luid been closed in due form the members of tho L.0.L., No. 29f treated the visiting brethren to a bountiful supply of refreshments, when the various toasts' to the King, sister and superior lodges, etc., were given and responded to, and as. no intoxicating liquors are ever permitted to enter the lodge room everyone enjoyed himself thoroughly, and left for home after spending an evening the like of which rewarded them for their presence.—Kaitangata Correspondent.
