, (From Our Own Correspondent.) BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Kaitaiigata Borough Council met on Wednesday evening, when there were present: Mr 'W, Coulter (Mayor) and Councillors Espie, McFadyen, Paterson, T. Gage and .). Donaldson. An apology was received from Councillor T. Middlemass for non-attendance. CORRESPONDENCE. The secretary Hospital and Charitable Aid B&ird forwarded a statement of account regarding the cqttage hospital—the balance due was £7O.—A long discussion took place as to whether the council was liable for this amount, and it was eventually decided that the Mayor, Councillors McFadyen and Espie *o into the whole question and report to next meeting. Wm. Houston wrote asking that the footpath leading from the manse to his residence be repaired.—The clerk to attend to this matter. G. W. Davis and Go. (Dunedin) wrote offering to undertake to heat the Kaitangata swimming baths.—Letter to lie on the table in the meantime. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £ll6 !)s Id were certified by the Finance Committee and duly passed for payment. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The report showed that the dayman had been engaged on tho watertables, repairs on Needle, Catherine, Poole and Branksea streets and on Creek road. Casual labour was engaged for cleaning out the old creek and ditches, and the work was now in hand, The contract of T. Hislop on the Hospital road was finished. The work of enlarging the Northern Cemetery was well advanced, and two blocks would be ready for use next month. Maintenance gravel was required on Exe, St. Albans, Salcombe and Kddystone streets, and on the road from, the engine-shed to Mrs W. Hutchison 's v An application for permission to fence in part of the old coast road had been made by Mr Gage, and also one from Mr W. Wilson to lease the oldpost office site. About 30 chains of the lemetery road was in bad repair. it was decided to carry out the gravelling outlined in the report.

WORKS KJiPORT. Councillor Espie reported that the bush road hail been inspected, ami the committee recommended that six trucks of metal be put oil it; also that Clyde terrace be Detailed from the Bridge ilotel, to street, and that four trucks of metal be placed from that street along to the traffic bridge at ! he boundary. The Mayor moved that the report be eld over until next meeting. The work would cost over £IOO, aiid as the overdraft. was £lB7 it was rather a big job -o near the end of the council's term.— Councillor McFadyen seconded the motion, and said it was hardly fair to saddle the incoming council with a big overdraft. Councillors Espie and Donaldson, of he Works Committee, protested at the .-helving of the report, as the work urgently required attention. After further discussion the motion was carried. GENERAL. The clerk was instructed to draw up i report on repairs to the footpaths at the post office corner. Tn discussing the old post office site, Councillor Donaldson suggested shifting the Borough Chambers into the old building and leasing the present chambers and ground. After discussion it was agreed to get a report for next meeting on the suitability of the place for borough offices.
