GREENFIELD BRANCH. The Greenfield branch of the Farmers' Union held their monthly meeting in the Greenfield school on Saturday evening last when there was a good attendance of nicmbers. The Sec. Provincial Council forwarded copy of the resolutions passed at the Dominion Conference..—The branch took exception to Resolution No. 5, which reads as follows : "That the Conference approves of the formation of the Fanners' Political Protection Federation," ami it was carried unanimously that this Greenfield brunch object strongly to a Farmers' Political Party being formedf It was agreed that the (secretary write the Clutha River Board and draw their attention to the fact that goods shed at Greenfield landing •wants) a little repairing, and to ask them if they will metal the piece of the road from near the shed to the present metal on punt road. The neglerted 1 state of the roads on Greenfield was brought up by the secretary who stated that they were paying rates year after year and could not get scarcely any of the rates spent on the Greenfield road and that all their applications to the Bruce County; Council were "treated with contempt." As there would soon be an election of councillors and they were not satisfied' with present conditions they should look out for another councillor. It was proposed, seconded, and carried unanimous)}' to ask Mr King to stand, and a deputation, consisting of Messrs Moore, Hawker, Broekett and J as. Hyslop, appointed to wait upon Mr King and ask him to stand. The secretary of the Greenfield Hall informed the meeting that he had got the names for M'A 12/ for the erection of the hall, also that there were three other sub. lists to come in, and that with a part of the proceeds of the concert which takes place on Friday, the 6th October, they should reach nearly £IOO, The programme for the concert and dunce is an exceptionally good one and we arc looking forward to a bumper house. The committee are doing their best to keep up their good name in ; giving visitors some-, thing to be pleased with. The next meeting of the Union will be held in the Greenfield school on Saturday, the 14th October, at S p.m.

The deputation waited upon Mr King at his farm on Monday evening and Mr Hyslop explained the business of the deputation, and called upon Mr Hawker to ask Mr King if he would stand. In reply, Mr King said nothing would have given him greater pleasure than td have again asked oui/ present member to serve us again, but looking at the neglected state of the roads, he said he would allow himself to be nominated, and if elected .he would serve the ratepayers of Greenfield to the best of his ability. The •deputation thanked him for his decision and told him that there would have to be a lot of money spent on. the Greenfield roads now that would scarcely be seen, and as the Farmers' Union' stated on Saturday evening that Mr King must stand there was no saying "?s T o."—Correspondent.
