VALEDICTORY.

Mr T. D. Pearson, who has for a J number, of years filled a responsible .position on the clerical staff-of the . bouthern Cross, Invercatgill, has entered into business in Balclutha as manager for Mr R. P. Meek, who has purchased Mr D. Munro's. business. Before leaving Invercargill he was the recipient of a handsome timepiece from the firm and staff. Mi' Pearson will be missed in the town, for he has made I many friends, who wish him every sucI cess in his new undertaking. He has been closely connected with all branches of sport. The Southland Boxing Association have reason to regret his departure, for he has done good work for them, as their finances show. They met and presented him with a case of pipes, a purse, and a substantial cheque. Then on the football field he has proved himself a genuine sport, and the members of his club (the Star) presented him with a gold sovereign case to remind him of the many hardfought tussels they had played side by side. In rowing he took an active part in the Railway Rowing Slub, and has honours to his credit. The ladies, also nave a warm leaving towards "Tom'" and the waitresses at the Albion Hotel presented km with a very nice necktie. No doubt lnvcrcargill's loss is Ualeluthns gain, for we feel sure Mr Pearson wi ] continue to take his part in all sport. J n business they will find mm a man of sterling character, and a decided acquisition to the districtSouthern Cross.
