BRUCE COUNTY BALANCE SHEET.

At Tuesday's meeting of the Bruce County Council, the balance .sheet was received back from the Audit Department, duly audited. There were one or two "tugs" of no material importance. Cr. llnggart moved, and Cr. Adam seconded, that the balance sheet be adopted and signed by the Chairman. In the course of the discussion which followed on the "tags." it was remarked that these; were easily explained. In "tag" No. I the money had been used for clearing out different drains. No separate account was kept on these funds ; the money was paid into the bank to the credit oi the general account, and when not used for the special purpose for which it was raised had been credited to the. general account. The Chairman said the "tags" would require to be advertised, otherwise some ratepayers might think the Council was hiding something, when, as a matter of fact there was nothing to hide. Cr. '■RnsseTl expressed his pleasure 'it the satisfactory position disclosed. Despite all the trouble and additional expense the Council was in a better position than it had ever previously been. Cr. Tlaggart : Oh, no ; we have been in a much better financial position. I can produce balance sheets without any debit balance. Voices : That must have been longago. Cr. iraggart : Not so. It is within the pas'l few years. Cr. Rust-ell remarked that had all the rates been paid up, the debit balance at March .'MsI would have been under 1/2000 : what was the financial position two years ngo '! Or. Tlaggart : I don't know. Cr. Russell : Neither docs anyone else. Or. Russell concluded b-- remarking that at the present time Tokomairiro Riding was only about t'M) in debt. Cr. Clark : You ought to thank me for that. The adoption of the balance sheet was then agreed to.
