FOOTBALL NOTES.

(By Eed-and-White.)

Clutha v. Lawrence. — This match was played yesterday afternoon on the Milton ground, and resulted in a draw — neither side scoring. The Clutha men made things very lively for their opponents during the first spell, and had decidedly the best of it, but the second spell was very equal — neither side having much advantage. Mr W. M'Donald (the Milton Club's captain) acted as referee and gave every satisfaction, and Messrs Finn and Grant acted 'as line judges.

The Clinton school team played the local boys on the reserve here last Saturday. Clinton drew first blood by Nichol scoring near the touch line ; no goal resulted. N. Brewer soon after half time got over for the Glutha boys, the kick from a difficult angle being fruitless. Near the call of tune Turnbull scored a second try for Clutlia after a smart piece of play, and Chapman kicked the desired goal, No further score was registered and the game resulted : — Clutha 8 points Clinton 3. Edwards at centre three-quarter played a splendid game, and will be heard of in the football field yet. BreAver was very good in the forwards, but Chapman had to bear the brunt of the heavy work, Clutha being most decidedly the lighter team. Mr Simpson acted as referee, and Messrs W, Finn, and F. Clapp as line judges.

The Owaka Football team journey to, Kaitangata on Saturday next to return the

match with the home club. The following have been picked to play : — Backs : C, Latta, Lees, A. Wingfield, Parker, Gow, Wingfield : forwards : Wilson, M'Phee, Callaghau, Jones, White, Paterson, Oarlton, Johnston, and Fraser.

Owaka Correspondent. — Iv reply to Eedaud White's reply to my note of last week. I have to say that if Kaitangata had seven of their "best" men away last match, they must have had them away at the Clutha match also, as the names of the players seemed to correspond pretty accucately, and also I notice you did not publish the names oE those who did play for Owaka, which were handed to the Kaitangata secretary ; if published would have been sufficient proof of their being caught on the hop. I certainly did not blame the Kaitangata for it, but the distance the Owaka players live from each other is simply impossible to get word to them to turn up, but simply to rely on them doing so, and by them not coming. I again repeat they were caught on the hop. The following table shows the Dunedin returns up to date :—
