OWAKA.

[FROM OUn OWN CORRESPONDENT.] It is a great pity the cheap trip to Dunedin was not advertised before last Friday, as it did not leave sufficient time for the settlers to make their arrangements for the trip. It is to be hoped the next time we get the chance they will give us a fortnight's notice and it wili pay them better. The following football team will meet Kaitangata next Saturday at Owaka, play starting at 3 o'clock : — Backs : J. Fraser, A. Lees, A. Wingfield, A. Gow, B. Wingfield, P. Parker. Forwards : W. Leal, W. M'Phee, W. Wilson, E. James, G. Johnston, J. Callaghan, R. Paterson, F. Carlton, R. White. Admission to ground 6d, ladies free, in aid of football club. A dinner will be given to the visitors in the evening at Mr Yial's, and a dance will be held at Paterson's Hall from 7 to 10.30. I notice the Government have at last started Tuck's Road, two gangs J being at work and with fine weather it should not take long in putting it through. Mr Farnie was down this week with a gang of men from Dunedin who have gone out to bush falling on road works at Taukupu. A young lad who is employed with Mr A. Saunders got lost on Monday in the bush anel was out all night before he was found by Mr W. Falconer. He seemed to be none the worse although it was a bitterly cold night. He was sent down the paddock with some calves and, instead of coming back to the house, crossed the river and must have lain down and fallen asleep. Search parties were out all night but it was not till about 8 o'clock he was found and the lad seems to have no recollection about it. When the news got spread everybody gave the fullest assistance. Winter is now with us. judging from the amount of mud we have to contend with on every hand. We have had two or three heavy frosts at night with fine sunny days, which partly compensates us for the mud.
