INTERVIEWING THE PREMIER.

Mr Thos. Mackenzie took the opportunity offered by the opening of Otago Central raiiwny to Hyde to wait on the Hon. E. Seddon and urge him to push on with the station formation works at Hunt's road. Mr Mackenzie explained that the formation work on the Dunedin side of Hunt's road was now nearly completed, three weeks should see it done, and if the permanent way were laid and station yard completed a iarge traffic would ensue to the railway, whilst the convenience to the settlers would be very great. Two sawmills were now in operation, and it cost a large sum to drag their timber to the Glenomaru railway station. The opening of the line would bring into use about five miles of nearly finished railway, and would save the heavy hill and bad road travelling. The Otago Central country could utilise the timber now being destroyed. The Premier in reply said that he would obtain full particulars from Mr Ussher who was on the train, and if the work was within the reach of the department it would go on. From his recollection of Hunt's road station he thought his engineers had given an adverse opinion about opening a station there. — Mr Mackenzie explained that the station his engineers had referred to was a temporary one asked for at the mouth of the tunnel, the Hunt's road would be a permanent station. — The Minister promised to see to the matter at once.
