CLUTHA BAND OF HOPE.
The third annual demonstration of the Clutha Band of Hope was held in the Puerua Hall on Tuesday, 22nd inst., the Rev. A. M. Dalrymple in the chair. By half-past seven the hall was well filled. Owing to the prevalence of hooping cough, tho attendance of members was smaller than on former occasions, but the young folks acquitted themselves most creditably, and the audience was evidently highly pleased -with their performances. The training of the choir, which was undertaken as a- labour of love, reflected great praise on Mr Robert Ayson, the conductor, Miss Somerville, the accompanist, and Miss Elizabeth Geggie, who led in the action songs. Two of these along with five or six temperance melodies were very nicely sung during the evening. The other items of the programme were : — Piano duet by Misses Somerville and Slawson ; a recitation, " Ruth " by Miss Jeanie Davidson ; recitation "Bingen on the Rhine" by Master Paul Renton ; piano solo by Miss F. Allison ; recitation " Lord Burleigh " by Miss Dalrymple ; 11 Charge of the light Brigade " by Master John Dalrymple; song "Prairie Flower" by Master W. Davidson; dialogue " Darning a cobweb by Miss Renton and Miss Annie Brown ; song " Little Fairy "by Miss Jeanie Brewn ; piano duet by Misses Somerville and E. Dalgliesh ; recitation " Mother and child " by Miss Jeanie Lamond i dialogue " Band of Hope spectacles " by Misses J. and H. Dalrymple and J. Brown; recitation "The destruction of Sennacherib" by Misses H. Dalryrnple ; dialogue " The election " by Messrs G. Smith, J. and T. Watt, G. Simpson, and E.
