UPPER OWAKA.

* fFROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] It is pleasing to note that the bachelors of Upper Owaka are real live bachelors, and that they don't keep all the fun to themselves. Their recent ball was a proof of this. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather there were a good many dancers present. The ball was held in Mr R. M'Kinnon's barn, which was very prettily decorated with ferns, flowers, evergreens, etc. . and from the great variety disseminating their lovely fragrance over the building produced a very pleasing and brilliant effect. A most sumptuous repast was provided, and those who were unable to dance could join in with the others in this particular and interesting part of the proceedings. The ladies, as is general on these occasions, looked charming, and were very prettily dressed, so that it was with difficulty one could judge as to who was belle of the ball. I think, however, that most of those who were present wore pretty well agreed as to the identity of the young lady entitled to this honour. Mr G. W. Johnston acted the part of M.C. very efficient!}'. The music was supplied by Messrs Calder, Johnston, M'Kinnon, and Jones (violin). The dance broke up about 4 o'clock, when a good many left for home, getting thoroughly drenched on the way, while others sat by the fire discussing the affair till daylight.
