As to whether poll is legal depends on whether informal vote's are counted to make up the half. The voting is in respect of publicans' licenses — >as at present 274, reduction 137, no license 654. Waitaki. — Five moderates and three temperance candidates elected. The vote resulted as regards publicans' licenses — as at present 771, reduction 111,, no license 869. ' Asiiburton. — After (faking legal advice the returning officer decided ■ to count informal votes to make up the' half poll, and an all-found reduction is therefore carried. Awarau, Wallace, Wakatipu. — Local option vote void. Invercargill. — The temperance committee elected. There were 2148 votes recorded at the licensing election about 300 over the requisite half, and only 139 short of the number required to carry prohibition. There were 530 informal votes, 278 being those of men and 253 those of women. But for this it is probable prohibition would have been carried. Oamahu. — Temperance ticket elected. Local option vote — publicans licenses as at present 859 ; Reduction 200 ; no license 1109. This is 200 short of the three-fifth necessary for prohibition. Timaru. — Moderate committee was elected by upwa|ds of 400 over the temperance nomirjees.' Local option — publican's licensed as at present 1559 ; reduction 236 ; n6 licenses 863. Wellington. — ! Majority in favor of reduction of 1099.1 Auckland. — The local option vote was void, and the same remark applies to a large mumber of districts in the North Island/ In all those districts where the half polled a reduction was carried with more or less ease.
