WANGALOA.

I FROM OUR OWN COHKESPONDJSNT. |

The late bad weather has retarded harvest operations very much, but the most of the farmers have got their grain nil cut, and only a few patches are still standing. Should this week keep fine there will be a good bit of grain secured in the stack, as a great many are ju3t waiting for the weather to clear up to get a start made with stacking. The Rev. Mr Fairmaid has got home again much refreshed by his four weeks' holidays. He intimated to the people on Sunday that the new church would be opened on Sunday first at half-past 2 p.m. so as to give the Kaitangata people a chance to come over. The Rev. Mr Allan, of Stirling, is to preach the opening sermon. There is some talk .of a soiree on Wednesday evening following the opening, but it is not quite settled yet. [The soiree has been postponed on account of the harvest.— En. C.L.) Mr Fairmaid also spoke in very feeling terms in regard to our teacher, Mrs Trotter, leaving the district, and referred to the many kind acts she had done during the four yeais she had sojourned amongst us. Her los 3 would be very keenly felt by all. He regretted that she could not be at the opening of the new church, but though absent in body she would ahvaj's be remembered in their prayers. I understand she is leaving the service after serving faithfully the Education 80-ird for somewhere about 25 or 2(3 years. The rev. gentlemen also spoke very strongly on the coming election, telling them how to vote the right. way. He was a strong pn.hibitionfst, and he hoped those who had., votes would record them for the good cause.
