LYONS'S OPERATIC COMPANY.

One of the most superior and best all-round combinations on the road at present is Lyon's Operatic Burlesque Company. This we gather from a sheaf of Press notices eulogistic in the highest degree, and -representing not only the leading towns and cities in New Zealond, but also those of Australia and other cities far beyond the confines of that continent. Mr A. Burton, the representative of the above company', has .completed arrangements to open in M'Kerizie's Hall, Balclutha, on Easter Monday and Tuesday, in " Faust up to date," in the performance of which they have made such a high and popular reputation for themselves v The company is a large one, and comprises some of the most clever and versatile comedy actors and actresses that New Zealand has seen for some time. The plays are the very best and' very latest and most up-to-date of the day, such, for. instance, as "Faust up to date," " The Isle of Beauty," etc., the productions of some of the best known and popular playwrights of the day. -The music, songs, medleys, and skirt dances are full of life, of music, of graceful action— song and humour such as the people of this district are but seldom afforded an opportunity of seeing. Nearly all the members of the company sing and dance, and do both well, introducing all the latest London comic and humorous eccentricities, and always succeeding in thoroughly entertaining and amusing their audience. The company have lately come over from Sydney, having had a highly successful Indian and Australian tour, thb same signal success attending their performances in this colony. The wardrobes of the company are described as a superb, and their dancing the highest style of the Terpsichorean art ; while the topical songs and pantomine business are immensely funny and never fail to delight an audience. Tlie rainbow serpentine dance is said to be the finest spectular effect of this kind ever produced in the colony, and no more delighful piece of business has been seen on and colonial stage. ' Dressed in rainbow-coloured dance in a manner that fairly delights the audience, manipulating her voluminous costume with some wonderfully pretty effects, while her posturing is extremely good.' Mr Lyons has with him a set of very agreeable ladies and gentlemen and clever artists, and deserve all success.
