AN APPEAL TO THE CLUTHA ELECTORS.

(By One of Themselves.) For God, and home, and duty, For love, and faith, and right, For friendship, youth, and beauty, Rise, comrades, in your might. This drink has ruined thousands, Has sent many to the grave ; Its victims cry for mercy, Look to you their lives to save. For all you love about you, For all you hope to be, The heaven that smiles above you, Our land engirt by sea. The children look for pity At youp-hands ; then pause and think, Use well your vote for freedom, And no license grant for drink. The eyes of other nations Are on your actions set, To see if haply yon attain What they yet hope to get. Wives and mothers of the Clutha, Sisters, sweethearts, sons, and men, Will you help your fellow creatures ? - Stay not, shrink not : do it then.
