POACHING.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —By inserting the following in your valuable columns you would much oblige one of Jock Scott's fraternity. Seeing it is now the season for the trout coming up to spawn, I fancy it would do no harm to remind all thorough anglers to be on the alert, and keep a good watch, night and day, to prevent poaching as much a3 possible in each of their localities. I for one intend to do all in my power to protect the fish at this season of the year, and I trust, I may be backed up by others. I feel certain we could mark out such peoplo ag would be guilty of capturing trout now, and make an pxample of them in a court of justice. What more wretched poaching could anyone do than take trout while spawning ? They don't only destroy a useless fish, but they are tho cause of destroying thousands of fish that have cost tho country so much money and trouble. I have been informed that there is more than one person who iutends keeping a good watch on the Owaki and Glenoniiiru streams. I trust their efforts may be fruitful. — I am, &c. , Angler.
