LODGE CLUTHA, N.Z.C.
The first masonic installation in Otago under the N.Z. constitution waa .held in tho Masonic Hall here on Friday night, when Bro. T. Hay- Mackenzie, P. M. , was duly installed in the chair of King Solomon, according to ancient custom, as R.W.M. of Lodge Clutha. The lodge was opened at 8.30 by the retiring R.W.M. (Bro. T. F. Dodd), and the Grand Superintendent of Otago (Bro. A. H. Barton) was received in tho 3rd degree with grand honors and to-'k the chair as installing officer. The ceremony was performed by Bro. Burton, assisted by Bro. Dodd as Director of Ceremonies, the musical portion being in charge of Bro. Barth ( W. ML . Lodge Otago). The newly installed R.W.M. then invested Bro. Dodd as I. P. M. and secretary, and Bro. Hargood as treasurer. Bro. Hargood obligated and invested the following officers for the ensuing year : — Bro. T. 11. Andrews, D.M. ; Bro. R. M'Guffog, S.M. ; Bro. G. S. Duncan, S.VV. ; Bro. W. Wilson, J.W. ; Bro. J. A. Algie, S.D. ; Bro. L. Pope, J.D. ; Bro. W. Nohar,. 1.0. ; Bro. J. Finn, tyler ; also Bros., P. 11. Blackley, R. Jones, and W. Lawson, stewards. The usual addresses wore given by Bro. I Burton and Bro. Hargood to tho R. W.M., ! the wardens, and the brethren, and the ceremony was concluded by an appropriate prayer by the chaplain. The lodge was then closed. There was a good attendance of brethren, the Grand. Lodge of New Zealand being represented by Bro. A. H. Burton, P.M., Grand Superintendent of Ofcago District ; Bro. A. J. Barth (W.M. , Lodge Otago), Grand Organist; Bro. T. F. Dodd, Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. Visitors from Dunedin were present and offered congratulations in the usual masonic manner from Lodge Otago, No. 844, E.C. , Lodge St. Andrews, No. 422, 5.0., and Lodge Hiram, No. 2008, S.C. Aw abundant spread was then laid out in the lodge room, provided, by the wives and families" of the different brethren, and a very pleasant time was passed at the festive board, the evening being enlivened by masonic toasts, songs, and recitations', till the saiallness of the hours made it necessary to terminate this moat successful gathering.
