CLUTHA' CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

The Clutha Caledonian Society's annual games were held on the lower reserve on Boxing day. The weather was favourable to the success of the' gathering, whichj notwithstanding the blu» ribbon picnic at Stirling the same day, wasqnite equal to that of previous occasions. The various events were fairly well /contested, and in somo. cases the contestants were pretty evenly matched. Tho Clufcha handicap wa» tho^ principal event of the day, and much interest was manifested in it by the onlookers. Some of the heats wore very close, but Parker proved himself the victor with twolvo points, Strack coming second with nine points. : The mile race was also a very good one, but Binnie, scratch, proved himself more than a match for his opponents, and succeeded in passing them all early in the race, The tilting was the only event of the dziy that financially cleared itself, there being no les* than eighteen entries. None of the feats could be said to be very brilliant, the highest score being only six, out of a possible of twelve. J. Potiki, who took the prize last year, again proved himself equ^l to the occasion. For Mr Strack's prize there were only two entries, and the winner only succeeded in clearing 15ft 2in. At this .rate it will be some Con* siderable time before Mr Strack can got rid of his. gold medal, which requires a distance of 2L feet. The arrangements of the Society were complete in every respect, and the whole passed off without anything to mar tho harmony of the gathering. The presence of the Kaitungata Brass Band lent greatly to the enjoyment of the day. As Secretary, Mr G. W. K.
