STIRLING SCHGOL.

A most enjoyable afternoon was spent ' dast Wednesday at. the closing of the' Stirling school for the Christmas and New Year holidays. The Committee have been most indefatigable in their exertion in collecting money and books to be given as prizes to the children. At one o'clock, the bour announced for the assembly of the children, a large number of parents and friends put in an appearance. The neat and tidy appearance of the children, with their faces beamjug with smiles, showed that to them the meeting was a happy one. Mr John Nelson, Chairman of Committee, presided, and after a few appropriate remarks, called on Mr Geo. Inglis, who distributed the prize.. Mr Inglis then addressed the' scholars, dwelling on the great importance of education in the race of life. He referred to the -great desire of the teachers to -lead -them up to a higher standard of educatioii^and also to the. anxiety of their ' parents ; to prepare them for a position far;aboy_>,that they themselves occupied. -•','*'
