WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 25.
In the Legislative Council — The Mataura Reserves Bill and Wyndham Recreation Reserve Bill passed without amendment. In the House of Representatives — In reply to questions, the Government said they hoped to proceed with the Harbour Bill this session ; the Green Island and Brighton railway had been entered into under section 123 of 'the Public Works Act, 1876. A return of contracts under which penalties had been incurred and had been enforced or remitted since July, 1877, was laid on the table. On the adjourned debate on the motion " That it is desirable to bring in a Bill to amend the representation in the House during this ' session, or if such a Bill cannot be prepared during the session, one shall be drafted during the recess," a discussion took place, and the motion was carried. Mr Gibbs proposed the extension of the telegraph to Collingwood. After a long discussion the motion was lost.
