WAIPAHI PROGRESS COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Waipahi Progress Committee was held at the Waipahi Hotel on 2nd September. There were present Messrs W. H. S. Roberts (in the chair), Cumming, Hewitt, Ross, and W. Scobie.

It was resolved that Mr Roberts be appointed permanent chairman and honorary secretary.

The Committee were much pleased that the County Council had granted the prayer of their petition and voted a sum of money to repair the road into the railway station, and expressed their thanks to those Councillors who had voted for it. A deputation was appointed to meet Mr Paterson, the County Engineer, to consult with him as to what parts of the road should be done first ; and the Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Paterson to ask him what day he would be at Waipahi, so that the deputation might meet him.

In reply to a resolution passed at a former meeting, asking for a cemetery, the Waste Lands Board had agreed to give five acres of section 52, block vri. , Waipahi, on the Committee forwarding a survey. It was resolved that the offer be accepted, and that a survey be obtained as soon as possible, and that on the rising of the Committee they at once proceed to the ground to fix the exact position of the cemetery, which they did. It was further resolved that the Secretary write to the Chief Commissioner for Lands, asking if section 52 is a reserve, and, if so, for what special purpose.

It was resolved that each member of the Progress Committee subscribe 10s 6d towards necessary expenditure, .and' that. Mr' Roberts be appointed Hon. Treasurer ; also, that the meetings be called for seven o! clock and at each hotel alternately, until a suitable room could be procured, and that the nextmeetinghe at Hewitt's Hotel on Friday, the 13th inst.
