PUERUA.

[from our own correspondent.]

The long-continued unfavorable weather lias much retarded agricultural operations in this as well as other districts. The farmers are far behind with their work, and are at present busy ploughing every day tho weather will permit. But for the weather a great j>art of the seed would have been sown. Sometimes we had a few fine days and everything was got ready for sowing, but before this could be done a heavy rain or snowstorm set in , and sowing was prevented. In consequence of this it is not expected there will be nearly so much ground under crop this year as was intended. With the exception of three or four farms, the quantity under crop will not exceed that of last year. On one small farm there will be an increase of about 20 acres.

The bad weather has also interrupted our usual monthly school readings, but it is to be hoped a change will occur before next moonlight so as to allow of their being resumed. The School Committee havo got timber laid down for enlarging and flooring the play-shed so as to render it suitable for concerts, dancing, &c. , as objection has been taken to the Schoolhouse being used for such purposes. Commercial travellers and others having occasion to visit tho rising township of Port Molyneux will be glad to know that Mr John H. Jenkinson is proprietor of the Alexandra Hotel, ancl that he has at great expense and trouble now got that establishment into something of the excellent condition it was when owned by Mr John Paterson. Visitors may now rest assured they will, under Mr Jenkinson's management, find at the Alexandra every accommodation both for man and beast, and all the comforts to be found at a firstclass hotel. There is no shabbiness or humbug about the new proprietor of the Alexandra. With him everything must be hberal and progressive, and fully up to tlie times. I believe the ensuing summer will show the wisdom and profitable nature of his policy.
