Pedestrian identified
A pedestrian who was killed at Spring Creek, near Blenheim, early on Sunday morning has been identified. He was Keith Ronald Oliver, aged 20, a mussel cooker, of Havelock. The rider of the motorcycle, Mr Duane Hunter, aged 19, of Blenheim, suffered head injuries. He was in a stable condition in the intensive care unit at Wairau Hospital yesterday. His pillion passenger, Mr. Anthony Marsh, aged 15, of Blenheim, suffered concussion and a lacerated leg. He was in a satisfactory condition. Neither had been interviewed by the police.
Mr Hunter and Mr Marsh left Blenheim about 4.45 a.m. on Sunday to catch a ferry sailing from Picton. The police are still trying to piece together information on how Mr Oliver came to be on the roadway when he was struck by the motorcycle.
