Juniors to tackle Aust.
The South Island junior golf team will be the first to pit its talent against the touring Australian team from the Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation in a 36-hole competition at Coringa today. The New Zealand Golf Foundation has named three teams to play the visitors. After today’s match, a North Island team will oppose the Australians at Masterton on Thursday and a New Zealand team will meet the visitors at Paraparaumu Beach on Friday. Teams will be of eight players each, four boys and four girls, in the under 12, 12 and 13 years, 14 and 15 years and 16 and 17 years age groups. The South Island team is:— Boys.— Under 12: Paul Davis (Balclutha). 12-13 years: Gavin Watson (Queenstown). 14-15 years: Marcus Mariu (Canterbury). 16-17 years: Paul Quickenden (Nelson). Girls.— Under 12: Naomi Wallace (Westport). 12-13 years: Kerrin McQuillan (Canterbury). 14-15 years: Sandra Johnson (Canterbury). 16-17 years: Toni Batey (Canterbury).
