Canty golfers in N.Z. sides

Brent Paterson and Brent Ruri are the Canterbury representatives named yesterday in three two-man New Zealand golf teams to compete in Australia over the next four months. '. Paterson, now the country’s most seasoned international, will team with Michael Long (Waikato) for the ninety-fifth Riversdale Cup and international teams’ championship in March. Paterson and Long have been worthy national representatives in two events this year. They finished equal seventh in the individual standings at the Malaysian 72-hole open amateur championship in May and took New Zealand to fourth in the team competition. They were also in the national four-man team which finished runner-up to Japan in the Asia-Pacific tournament in Taipei in September. The young Waitikiri junior, Ruri, and Marcus Wheelhouse (Auckland) have been chosen to contest the Australasian zone play-off of the 1990 Doug Sanders international junior championship at the Liverpool and Cumberland clubs in Sydney in mid-January. Michael Campbell, of Wellington, will make his New Zealand senior debut when he and the experienced Phil Aickin (Auckland) play in the Lake Macquarie amateur championship at the Belmont club in late January. Campbell, a national junior representative for the last two years, had a good record at No. 1 for his province at the recent Tower national interprovincial tournament
