Former protesters still share views

By

VIVIENNE OAKLEY

A group of former “protesters” who got together at the week-end were surprised to find that 15 years later they still share many of the same views. The Progressive Youth Movement held a week-end reunion in Christchurch. An organiser, Mr Murray Horton, said the event was successful. | "We’ve all gone our separate ways but we found we still share many views. There was a room full of highly opinionated 60s and 70s radicals and there weren’t any rows,” he said. Reunion events included a forum, a display, the making of a documentary, a dinner and a tour of the police museum. Mr Horton said P.Y.M. could take some credit for changing society, particularly on attitudes towards South Africa. ’- c '

“Fundamentally a change has been the fact that being a protester then was a novelty and now it’s not questioned.” About 75 people attended the reunion.
