Elections

Sir,—Mr lan Shrimpton (October 19) states that he was “relieved” that he was not elected to the new Christchurch City Council, and that with his existing busy schedule he did not need the added commitment of being a councillor. If this is true, why then did he allow his name to go forward, and effectively wasting the votes of those in the Shirley ward who supported him? Or is it that the product of the vine has not proved to be as sweet as it possibly could have been? —, Yours, etc.,

P. J. SPILLER. October 19, 1989.
