Postal voting
Sir,— Leaving the way too easily open for coercion or bought votes, how fallible, potentially, is the postal system of voting, with lost votes or “lost” votes presenting few difficulties for the unscrupulous. The freedom to vote according to one’s own personal inclination could be very much at risk. There was a time when women were expected to, and actually did, vote according to the political views of fathers or husbands. With postal voting privacy of personal voting could come once again under male domination.—Yours, etc ISABEL WITTY. October 17, 1989.
