Penal rates
Sir,—Ruth Richardson’s continued attack on the payment of penal rates to our health workers, of whom I am one, leaves me with two burning desires: (1) That the National Party would finally sort out its leadership issue so that she would not feel the need to score political points and thus enhance her prospects. (2) That the same generous body (i.e., the Higher Salaries Commission) that sets her wage level, determines mine.—Yours, etc., J. HALLIGAN. September 19, 1989.
