A seat in the sun
Sir,—When walking recently through North Hagley Park we were pleased to be able to use a new seat and enjoyed watching a game of soccer. Unfortunately this was the only seat out of five or six new ones that was situated in the sun facing the beautiful park. The rest were under trees, facing east into the wind, where the view is of cars passing along Park Terrace. Most will get no sun, in summer or winter. Having been set in concrete, they cannot be moved for a picnic group or for a quiet sit in the sun. So what use are these new seats in the very unimaginative situations in which they have been placed? We and other park users would, like the council to move some seats to the sunny west facing edges, where they will get used. — Yoiirs, etc., B. and H. E. LE CREN. September 20, 1989.
