Tennesse Bottle, Russley Fella shine

The three-year-olds, Russley Fella and Tennesse Bottle, were the most impressive of 17 qualifiers at the Rangiora trials on Sunday. Russley Fella, a colt by Smooth Fella out of the Scottish Hanover mare, Roydon Poppy, covered the 2400 m in 3:10.4, the last 1600 m in 2:03.9, 800 m in 63 and 400 m in 31.8.

Trained by Fred Morris, of Christchurch, Russley Fella was not pressured by driver Leo O’Reilly. The winning margin of a long neck over the strongfinishing Boodles (4g Montini Bromac-Whisk-ers) could easily have been more.

Robert Dunn has had a number of promising youngsters showing up at recent trial meetings, but none more impressive than Tennesse Bottle, a gelded son of Lumber Dream, out of the True Averil mare, Nina Averil. Tennesse Bottle joined Sir Striker at the head of the field as they swung for home, but as Geoff Dunn was asking his charge for more, his brother, Robert, sat perfectly still with Tennesse Bottle to record an im-
