Relay concerns
The potential for traffic congestion, parking problems and bad behaviour by supporters at the Mobil New Zealand Road Relay Championships is concerning some Akaroa residents. The race, on Saturday, will end in the town. An Akaroa County councillor, Cr Marlene Woods, said some residents were upset that the race was finishing in the town.
The chairman of the race’s organising committee, Mr Bob Perry, said these concerns had been expressed by the county chairman, Mr Tad Harris, at a meeting of interested parties. The consensus had been to leave the finishing line where it was.
