Daffodil flood heralds spring at flower market
Daffodils sold in peak volumes this week with about 15,000 bunches bought at the flower market. '
The main orchid growers in the .North Island are nearing . the end of the season so fewer New Zealand orchids will be available but Singapore orchids are still arrving in large
volumes.
According to a flower market auctioneer the local market usually receives four to five boxes of Singapore orchids a week. This week they received 14. Freesia , volumes are also winding down as the bulk of these have been imyested but small amounts would still be
available for some weeks. With improved sunny weather carnation numbers are climbing as more come into bloom and carnation prices should soon drop slowly. Gypsophila and roses are still very short, pushing prices up to about $7 too $l4 a bunch for gypsophita and about $2O a bunch for roses.
