Relative remanded
PA Invercargill Queenstown is some distance from Wanganui, but not far enough for a young builder’s labourer yesterday. Guy Robertson Melville, of Wanganui, appeared in the District Court at Queenstown to face one of his senior relatives on the Bench. Melville was charged with stealing a pair of ski racks valued at $l3l at Queenstown. When Judge Unwin
stepped into the dock he told the court that he could not hear the case. Confusion reigned on the faces of those below when Judge Unwin, also of Wanganui, declared that he knew the young man before him personally. “In fact, he’s a relative of mine,” he said. Arrangements were made for the case to be heard in the District Court at Christchurch and Judge Unwin remanded Melville to appear on Friday.
