Trustees’ group mooted

A meeting will be held next week to discuss the formation of a local association of schools’ boards of trustees. Trustee board members from primary, intermediate and secondary schools in Canterbury have been invited as well as early-education representatives. Several regional associations of trustees have already been set up in New Zealand with the encouragement of the School Trustees’ Association, which represents trustee boards nationally. A member of the recently wound-up

Canterbury School Committees’ Association which organised the meeting, Mrs Marie McKendry, said a local association would provide a voice for local people at national level. She said many boards of trustees were still “ploughing through” the task of setting up their schools, and did not realise how important it was to be part of an association. Representatives from the School Trustees’ Association and the State Services Commission will speak at the meeting.
