Pigs die in fire
By
BARRY CLARKE
A sow and at least 10 piglets died in a fire which swept through pens on a pig farm near Cheviot yesterday. The 15m square building on Mr Peter O’Boyle’s property at Domett was gutted by the blaze which took an hour to control. Three other sows were badly burned and are unlikely to survive.
The fire is belived to have been caused by a sow making a nest out of straw round a heat lamp, Constable Kirk Newman, of Cheviot, said yesterday.
The alarm was raised at 5.30 a.m. Two appliances and a water tanker attended.
