Badminton worry
PA Auckland An injured badminton star, Rhona Robertson, will probably not be fit to play at the Commonwealth Games next January. The national coach, Martin Andersen, said the ligament injury Robertson suffered at the New Zealand championships on Saturday was so serious it would be a miracle if she played at the Games. Robertson, aged 19, was examined by a specialist yesterday and will have surgery on her left knee on Friday. She will have to wear a leg brace for six weeks. Robertson led the New Zealand team to victory in a division of the world championships in Jakarta in May and the successful Whyte Trophy test series against Australia last month. She was favourite for the New Zealand title last week and was regarded as a good medal prospect for the Games. She has won New Zealand and Australian junior singles, doubles and mixed titles.
