New sports show
Sports fans are in for a feast of action with the start of a new magazinestyle sports programme, “Sportsnight” (tonight at 10 on One). “Sportsnight” will show extensive coverage of local sport, with an injection of overseas action as well. The programme will concentrate on screening mid-week sport, an area which has not been covered extensively in the past. Major sporting events which have occurred in the previous 24 hours will be targeted by the programme, which will endeavour to cover a wide range of sports. Sports news and current affairs will also be a part of the show. A Commonwealth Games report, a ski report (in winter) and a beach report (in summer) will be regular features of “Sportsnight.” Overseas action, featuring World Cup soccer qualifying games and Australian Rules matches, will also be included. The producer of “Sportsnight,” Murray Allison, promises the programme will not be just a carbon copy of “Wide World of Sport” which features overseas sport.
