New antenna for Sugarloaf

Sugarloaf transmitting station near Christchurch is soon to install a new antenna system which will improve TV Two reception to some areas and which will transmit TV3. Starting in September, Broadcast Communications, Ltd, (8.C.L.) engineering staff will replace the TV Two transmitting antenna with a new antenna on which both TV Two and TV3 will be transmitted. The B.C.L. transmission superintendent, Mr Tony Stockley, says that viewers will still be able to receive TV Two during the changeover, but some viewers in distant areas might notice a temporary increase in the amount of “snow” on their picture.

“Half of the transmitting antenna will be replaced at a time, while the other half continues to transmit programmes,” he says. It will take approximately three months to intall the new antenna. Mr Stockley says that B.C.L. engineers have designed the new antenna to provide much better coverage to some areas which do not presently receive a high quality signal. B.C.L. has set up a helpline for viewers who experience problems with their TV Two reception during the changeover. The number is (03) 662-762. Local service companies are also able to advise viewers.
