Fires kill 11
Fires raging through forest and scrubland on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia have killed at least 11 people, officials said yesterday. The police said shepherds seeking more grazing land or developers wanting to change zoning regulations may have set on the blaze, declared under control yesterday morning. Nearly all the victims were Italian tourists, including three children. Two families died trapped in care as they tried to escape the fast-moving flames.—NZPAReuter
