Fahey pledges law and order

By

KAY FORRESTER

The United Citizens mayoral candidate, Dr Morgan Fahey, pledged last evening that the association would not allow any reduction of law and order in Christchurch. A priority for the association was a safe city for all its residents, young and old, he said. United Citizens were investigating plans to support police efforts in the city and would announce details of its policy at Monday’s campaign

launch. As a police surgeon for 10 years, Dr Fahey said he knew of the police officers’ work. “Much of what they have to put up with is not appreciated. With a marked increase in crime, particularly violent crime, the pressure they are under is now even greater.” The last thing the Government should be doing was restricting the police’s ability to respond to crime, Dr Fahey said.
