Boxing results mixed
The boxing O’Shannessey brothers from Christchurch enjoyed mixed results when the senior improvers’ (under 10 bouts) championship finals were held at the national tournament at Karaka, South Auckland, yesterday. Terry O’Shannessey won the middleweight title at the expense of C. Smith (Auckland) when the referee stopped their bout in the third round. But Bard O’Shannessey conceded an unanimous points decision to another Canterbury representative, Mark Neither, in the featherweight final. Both O’Shannesseys and Neither are trained by the 1984 Olympic Games
