Marlborough wins
PA • Blenheim Marlborough drew even with Southland at the top of the national second division rugby table when it completed an unconvincing, 10-6, victory over Poverty Bay at Landsdowne Park, Blenheim, yesterday. The win was Marlborough’s third in three championship matches. But the manner of its latest victory was disappointing as it allowed Poverty Bay to remain in contention in a match that failed to entertain. Two Danny Boyle penalty goals for the Bay separated the „sides at halftime. Scorers:— Marlborough 10 (Tinitale Makalea, try; lan Stark, 2 penalty goals) beat Poverty Bay 6 (Danny Boyle, 2 penalty goals). Half-time: 0-6.
