Accountants merger on
PA Wellington Arthur Young and Ernst and Whinney have formally voted to merge into one professional services group. The new firm of Ernst and Young will officially come into being on Monday, but full financial integration will not be completed until the start of next year. The co-chairmen of the new firm will be Mr Denis Tait, the former Arthur Young chairman, and Mr Michael Wigg, the former chairman of Ernst and Whinney.
Messrs Tait and Wigg said the United States and British practices of both firms had already voted to merge. A merger between the two firms’ Christchurch offices has already been in effect for most of this year. On February 1 the Christchurch partners of Ernst and Whinney joined forces with Arthur Young, operating from Arthur Young House under the Arthur Young name. The local merger occurred independently, before the international firms began serious negotiations. From next week the Christchurch practice will be known as Ernst and Young.
