Woman swept away
A woman died on Mount Egmont on Monday after being swept away while trying to cross a flooded stream. Doreen Agnes Blake, aged 57, of Matapu, near Hawera, was in a party of six which attempted to cross the Ngatoro stream, North Egmont. Three of the group were swept downstream in the swollen river. Mrs Blake’s husband, Graeme, was one of those swept away, however, he and the other woman in difficulty managed to make it to the river bank.—PA.
